ABOUT KIM
KIM MURPHY BELLAIRS

Kim has 30 years of experience in the field of Biokinetics. She worked for the University of Cape Town, and at the Sports Science Institute of South Africa and after a stint at SKY TV in the UK in their sports department, opened a practice at Vincent Pallotti Hospital. Kim also lectures at UCT and is an external examiner for UCT.
Kim has a special interest in orthopaedic rehabilitation and has worked closely with the orthopedic surgeons at Vincent Pallotti for many years. Her past dance career has allowed her to also assist dancers to reach their full potential. She enjoys using different modes of functional treatment and working as part of a bigger team. Communication is key for Kim with referring Dr’s or coaches or teachers and this ensures that a patient is well managed. Kim practices what she preaches and commits to exercise daily loving trail running, surfing, mountain biking and gym.
Growing the field of biokinetics is part of Kim’s philosophy and she thrives leading new young biokineticists in their careers. Isabella Pellei has recently joined the practice in 2023. Magdel Steyn moved over to the practice in 2024.
Isabella Pellei earned both her B.Sc. Sports and Exercise Science and B.Sc.(HONS) Biokinetics at UWC. Following her studies, she completed an internship at the Sports Science Institute of South Africa. Isabella has a particular interest in geriatrics, pregnancy, chronic disease management, runners’ strength and rehabilitation, and orthopedic rehabilitation. In her free time, she enjoys running in the mountains and reading a good book.
Magdel Steyn joined the practice this year, bringing a wealth of knowledge with her. Mags enjoys working with individuals facing neurological and orthopedic issues. She ia brilliant with spinal cord and stroke patients. Mags also has a particular love for hydrotherapy and is one of the few WATSU certified biokineticists. She is currently reading for her M.Sc. (Exercise Science) at UCT.
OUR TEAM
OUR PREMISES
We are located in Vincent Pallotti Hospital in the Dick Williamson Medical Centre. The centre houses a rehabilitation gym as well as an indoor heated swimming pool. Hydrotherapy is a valuable treatment option that we have to offer. There are 4 physiotherapy practices and an orthotics and prosthetics practice in the centre allowing for a multidisciplinary approach to treatment where needed.

Please note that we are a private practice. Payment is due after consultation. We will bill and code according to HPCSA’s guidelines including ICD10 codes in order for you to be re imbursed if you have adequate cover.

Biokinetics’ primary function is to improve physical functioning and health care through exercise as a modality.
Biokinetics is the profession concerned with health promotion, the maintenance of physical abilities and final phase rehabilitation, by means of scientifically-based physical activity programme prescription.
Simply: Exercise is our tool.
Biokinetics requires 4 years of academic study at a University with a fifth practical internship year.
